Q1. To become a Registered Emissions Repair Technician, for diesel-powered vehicles, the applicant must meet the following requirements: Complete the MASS module exam online with a passing score of 100%; Complete the department's approved 28-hour advanced OBD diagnosis and repair training; and:

Have at least five years experience as a diesel repair technician.
Have certifications from at least two diesel engine manufacturers.
Have a current ASE certification in A1, A8 and L-1.
Have a current ASE L-2 certification or be currently ASE Light Vehicle Diesel Engines (A9) and L-1 certified.
